Mt. Pleasant reintroduces ‘Leash Up’ campaign to boost pet safety

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – The Town of Mount Pleasant is re-introducing its leash laws designed to promote responsible pet ownership and public safety.

According to town officials, ‘Leash Up, MTP’ mandates that pets be on leashes in all public spaces in town, including parks and sidewalks, unless in a specifically designated dog park.

Dogs and cats must wear a collar or harness securely attached to their bodies with proof of rabies vaccination tag attached, according to the Mount Pleasant ordinance. The tag must be issued by a licensed veterinarian.

Officials say the campaign aims to raise awareness about the importance of keeping dogs on leashes not just for the safety of residents but also for the well-being of pets.

The town is encouraging residents to participate by spreading the word, following leash laws, and showing support by using the hashtag #LeashUpMTP on social media.

Failure to comply with the ordinance could result in fines or in severe cases, removal of the animal from the owner’s care.
