Woman arrested after firearm found in school bathroom, police say

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – A woman was arrested after officers located a firearm in a Mount Pleasant high school Monday, according to police.

20-year-old Nautica Omanykaniyaha Hamilton was charged with carrying a weapon on school property.

School resource officers were notified of a firearm found in a private restroom at Lucy Beckham High School around 1 p.m., police said.

Officers determined Hamilton to be the weapon owner before taking her to the Al Cannon Detention Center.

Hamilton was contracted to help with the school’s nutrition service team.

No threats were made to the students or school staff, Sgt. Ashley Croy with Mount Pleasant PD said.
