Adoptions and fosters needed: Berkeley Animal Center slows animal intake as it reaches max capacity

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Berkeley Animal Center has implemented a moratorium on animal intake as it reaches maximum capacity.

The shelter said Tuesday that it has had an influx of animals and is critically over capacity. Right now, they have 150 animals awaiting adoption or a foster family.

Shelter leaders say they can only accept injured animals, in danger, or animals that present a danger to others.

Fostering a pet is one way to help if adopting is not right for your family. Fostering a pet is free, and all supplies – food, toys, and access to a 24/7 foster care line – are provided.

Anyone interested in fostering an animal can stop by the shelter anytime Tuesday through Saturday between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.

The shelter is also offering reduced adoption fees. Puppies are $150, kittens are available for $50, and adult dogs and cats can be adopted for $25.
