Flooding from Santee River closes portion of US17-A in Georgetown County

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A stretch of US17-A in Georgetown County is closed Friday due to Santee River flooding.

Georgetown County Emergency Management said they were notified by the South Carolina Department of Transportation that they planned to close the road, also known as Saints Delight Road, near SC Highway 41 around 8 a.m.

Flooding from the Santee River was expected to occur through Saturday before receding. It comes as water from North Carolina during the recent hurricane moves south.

Drivers should plan to use an alternate route. “Remember, barricades are in place for your safety and please do not drive around them,” emergency management officials said.

Officials say the area will likely be closed for the next few days.
