Late-night collision leaves one dead, multiple hospitalized

COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A fatal collision occurred late Saturday night on Jefferies Highway (US 15) at the intersection with Pleasant Grove Road, approximately six miles north of Walterboro, according to Master Trooper William Bennett.

The crash occurred around 11 p.m. and involved a 2004 Chevy Silverado and a 2018 Chevy Suburban. The Silverado, traveling west on Pleasant Grove Road, collided with the Suburban headed south on Jefferies Highway.

The driver of the Silverado was transported to a nearby hospital. All five occupants of the Suburban, including the driver, were also taken to the hospital.

According to Master Trooper William Bennett, one passenger in the Suburban died from their injuries.

The Colleton County Coroner’s Office has yet to release the identity of the victim.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
