Dorchester School District 4 receives $16 million capital funds check from South Carolina Department of Education
HARLEYVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) – Dorchester School District 4 (DD4) received a major financial boost today as South Carolina Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver made a special visit to Harleyville Elementary School, presenting the district with a $16 million check in capital funds.
The event, attended by district leadership, faculty, and students, marked a significant milestone in its efforts to improve its infrastructure and learning environments.
The celebration began with a warm welcome from Harleyville Elementary student Royal Green, setting the tone for the event. DD4 Superintendent Jeff Beckwith expressed his gratitude for the generous funds and emphasized how crucial modern, safe, and comfortable facilities are for student success.
Superintendent Weaver praised the dedication of the Dorchester community, highlighting three key themes: the pride in ensuring a quality education for every child, the power of persistence that led to securing the funds, and the potential for partnerships between the community, state, and local leadership.
The ceremonial check presentation was met with applause, symbolizing a bright future for the district. Board Chair Phyllis Hughes echoed the excitement, thanking Superintendent Weaver and the General Assembly for their support. She also acknowledged the hard work of the district’s teachers and the impact these renovations will have on students.
The $16 million will fund crucial upgrades across the district, including new roofing, flooring, structural repairs, and enhanced playgrounds—transforming schools into inspiring spaces for learning.
Superintendent Weaver’s visit and the capital funding mark a turning point for DD4 as it works to create a safer and more dynamic learning environment for all students.
