Georgetown officer injured leg while chasing after Food Lion shoplifting suspect, officials say

GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WCBD) – An officer was injured Wednesday night while chasing after a shoplifting suspect.

Officers with the Georgetown Police Department responded to a Food Lion in Maryville around 8 p.m. to investigate a shoplifting. When the officer attempted to arrest the suspect, the person ran off.

An official with the department said the officer injured his leg while chasing after the suspect and required medical attention.

A K-9 unit out of the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office was requested to help search for the individual.

The suspect was eventually taken into custody. No other details were provided.
