Georgetown County schools closed Monday due to severe weather threat

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Georgetown County schools will be closed Monday in anticipation of severe weather that is expected to impact most of the county.

Students will have an eLearning day at a later date.

A tropical disturbance could strengthen as it moves near the South Carolina coast. Forecasters say heavy rain, gusty wind, and coastal flooding is likely. A tropical storm warning is active for much of the South Carolina coast.

All GCSD schools and facilities will be closed on Monday, and all school activities, including athletic events and practices are canceled or postponed.

“GCSD is an approved eLearning district; however, a decision has been made to schedule eLearning for Monday, October 7, 2024, a designated makeup day on the 2024-2025 GCSD School Calendar,” the district said. “This will allow time for schools and teachers to plan instructional activities and ensure that students have needed devices and/or learning packets.”

The district expects a return to its normal operations on Tuesday.
