Part of C-17 Globemaster III lands in Hanahan school parking lot

HANAHAN, S.C. (WCBD) – Part of a C-17 Globemaster III landed in the parking lot of a Hanahan school Thursday afternoon.

The part was found outside Divine Redeemer Catholic School off Fort Drive, according to one person who shared images on a community Facebook page.

Officials with Joint Base Charleston told News 2 a Joint Base Charleston C-17 Globemaster III landed safely after a malfunction in flight. 

They said the C-17 crew notified JBC and returned to the base after a piece of the tail cone fell off during flight.

The aircraft piece was recovered by a team from the base. No injuries or property damage was reported.

The incident is under investigation.
