Man charged after fleeing fatal DUI crash
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The North Charleston Police Department has arrested a man after he fled the scene of a fatal DUI crash Wednesday night.
Elder Antonio-Caceres, 31, is charged with Leaving the Scene of a Collision involving Death, Leaving the Scene of a Collision involving Great Bodily Harm, Felony DUI involving Death and Felony DUI involving Great Bodily Harm.
Authorities say the collision occurred around 11:45 p.m., dispatchers received multiple calls about a two-car collision on Rivers Ave at Benderson Dr.
Upon arrival, officers found one vehicle submerged in a ditch with both people entrapped.
The passenger was pronounced deceased on the scene and the driver was taken to the hospital, according to Harve Jacobs, spokesperson for the North Charleston Police Department.
Officials say officers were advised that the other vehicle’s driver had fled the scene on foot. He was caught in Hanahan’s jurisdiction a short time later.
The North Charleston Police Department’s traffic unit is investigating.
