Police arrest 14-year-old over incident that evacuated high school football game

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCBD) — Goose Creek Police announced a 14-year-old has been arrested in connection to an incident that caused the evacuation of a high school football game.

Capt. James Emerson said the teen was charged with school disturbances by nonstudent and student threats. He was subsequently released to the custody of his parents.

Fans attending the Friday night game between Stratford High School and Summerville High School were evacuated after the second quarter.

Katie Tanner with Berkeley County School District said the evacuation came after initial reports of shots fired stemming from a conversation in the crowd.

Police said they received several 911 calls of shots fired at Stratford High’s football stadium. The stadium was then evacuated out of an abundance of caution.

During the initial investigation, law enforcement said no witnesses claimed to see or hear shots and found no evidence to substantiate the claim.

Goose Creek PD later confirmed no shots were fired, and no injuries were reported. No gun was found.

The game was both teams’ first of the 2024 football season. It was canceled at halftime, and Summerville led 28-14.
