Construction continues on Folly Beach as renourishment project nears completion
FOLLY BEACH, S.C. (WCBD) – Construction equipment and large pipes scattered across the sands of Folly Beach Sunday, marking months of the extensive beach renourishment project nearing its final stages.
Beachgoers witnessed the ongoing efforts to restore and fortify the shoreline, which began several months ago.
The project aims to renourish five miles of the beach, providing crucial protection as forecasters predict an active hurricane season. In addition to enhancing the beach’s natural defenses, the renourishment will help maintain the area’s appeal to visitors and residents alike.
Different sections of the beach will be temporarily closed as the work progresses. Those planning to visit can track which areas are open or closed through the project’s online tracker.
As the project nears its conclusion, residents and officials alike are hopeful that the improved shoreline will offer better protection against potential storms in the coming months.
