Caw Caw Interpretive Center reopens after flooding recedes

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Caw Caw Interpretive Center has reopened to the public as flood water recedes in southern portions of Charleston County.

Charleston County Parks closed its facilities on August 5 as the slow-moving Tropical Storm Debby dropped heavy rainfall for days and caused significant flooding.

Most of their parks reopened on August 9; however, Caw Caw remained closed because of flooding conditions.

Charleston County Parks said the flood waters have since receded and Caw Caw Interpretive Center resumed its normal operating schedule as of Wednesday morning.

Park officials reminded visitors that the trail system remains muddy in areas and encouraged people to wear appropriate footwear and to use caution while on the trails.

Caw Caw Interpretive Center is located in Ravenel. It is managed as a low-impact wildlife preserve. There are more than six miles of trails, with exhibits, elevated boardwalks through wetlands, and more.
