Man, 18, facing multiple charges in West Ashley crime spree
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A man accused in a series of West Ashley car break-ins and vehicle thefts is now facing multiple charges.
Officers with the Charleston Police Department responded to a report of several car break-ins during the early hours of August 9 in the Bolton’s Landing neighborhood.
A suspect attempted to run from deputies; however, he was captured later that morning while coming out of the woods on Bees Ferry Road.
He was found to have a handgun that was stolen in a previously reported car break-in, according to police.
Charleston PD detectives later learned the same person was responsible for multiple property crimes in the Satori Way Apartments hours before the thefts in Bolton’s Landing.
Jalen Stuckey, 18, is being charged with resisting arrest, possession of a stolen handgun, seven counts of breaking into a motor vehicle, and three counts of grand larceny. He is being held at the Charleston County Detention Center.
“We would like to thank the vigilant neighbors who reported suspicious activity immediately and provided camera footage to our officers. The series of thefts serves as a reminder that vehicles are not secure storage spaces for valuables, especially firearms. Please lock your doors, look out for your neighbors and report suspicious activity,” the department said.
Police ask anyone with information related to these incidents to contact the department at 843-720-2422 and ask to speak with the on-duty central detective.
