Tornado warning issued in Lowcountry counties, tornado confirmed on Edisto Beach

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A tornado warning is in effect for two Lowcountry counties until 11:15 p.m.

Forecasters spotted a waterspout 15 miles offshore of Kiawah Island south of Sandy Point. The waterspout is moving towards the coast and could come ashore as a tornado.

The following locations are most impacted:

Edisto Beach, Johns Island, Hollywood, Folly Beach, Ravenel, Seabrook Island, Kiawah Island, Meggett, Rockville, Bennetts Point, Jacksonboro, Bears Bluff, Wadmalaw Island, Green Pond, and Yonges Island.

A tornado was confirmed by officials on Edisto Beach in Colleton County. Colleton County deputies say they have received reports of property damage and several downed power lines.

Palmetto Boulevard is impassible as a result until surveyors can evaluate the damage. No injuries have been reported so far. Rescue crews are out assisting those affected.

Officials advise those on the path to seek shelter immediately.
