Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office investigating K-9 officer’s ‘untimely death’

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of one of their K-9 officers.

Officials said in a news release that their K-9, who was not named, died on Sunday.

“An investigation is being conducted into the untimely death. The K9 will be taken to Columbia this week for a necropsy,” the agency wrote.

The 5-year-old K-9 was found in their handler’s vehicle at the time of his death.

No other details were provided. The sheriff’s office said it would release additional details when the investigation is complete, and results of the necropsy have been received and reviewed.
