SLED investigating officer-involved shooting at West Ashley apartment complex

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The State Law Enforcement Division confirmed they are investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the Charleston Police Department Tuesday night.

Sgt. Chris Stinson, spokesperson for Charleston Police, said just after 7:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the parking lot of the Ashley River Apartments on Ashley Crossing Lane for a report of an individual shooting a gun in the parking lot.

When officers arrived, they found an individual with a firearm in the parking lot. The suspect would not put down the weapon, and an officer fired their gun.

The suspect did receive a minor injury and was treated at the scene. That individual is in custody. Sgt. Stinson said SLED will release more information on the suspect at a later time.
