Rescue underway for swimmer in distress on Pawley’s Island

PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD) – Authorities are searching for a swimmer in distress off the coast of Pawley’s Island Friday evening.

A Midway Fire and Rescue spokesperson said rescuers are currently searching for the distressed beachgoer. The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Coast Guard,  the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources are assisting with the search.

Authorities said updates will be provided when they are available. A viewer sent video showing a part of the rescue was taken at Litchfield Beach and Golf Resort near S. Dune Drive.

Beachgoers are asked to avoid the area until the rescue is complete.
