Charleston voted best in the U.S. for the 12th straight year by T+L readers
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Thanks to its historic architecture, easy walkability, food scene, and Southern hospitality, Charleston has been named the #1 city in the U.S. for the 12th consecutive year by Travel + Leisure readers.
Cities were specifically rated on the following criteria: sights/landmarks, culture, food, friendliness, shopping, and value.
According to Travel + Leisure, the one characteristic that always captures a reader’s heart and attention is a strong identity, and a sense that the city is unlike others elsewhere in the country.
That’s one way to describe Charleston: one of a kind!
One reader dubbed Charleston “a great example of a city that holds to their roots, but also strives to be current and welcoming to everyone.”
People love visiting for all kinds of trips—romantic weekends, family vacations, or friends’ getaways—and they always find something new to enjoy each time.
“This place is like going back in time,” another reader wrote. “Stunning things to look at with each historical home and the landscaping, window boxes, wrought-iron fencing, art galleries, museums, horse-drawn carriages, cobblestone roads, parks and lots of benches to sit under amazing, huge trees, and numerous restaurants to explore flavors.”
There’s always something fun to do, whether you’re into arts, entertainment, or just relaxing by the coast.
Additionally, Charleston was the only U.S. destination among the 25 Best Cities in the World list.
