Lightning strike causes home’s chimney to collapse

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A home was damaged by lightning as storms raked across the Charleston area on Monday afternoon.

Charleston city officials said lightning struck a house at the corner of Hasell and Meeting streets, causing the brick chimney on the home to collapse.

Bricks were scattered across the roadway, which caused the city to close the street.

Officials said an inspector from the city is on the way to assess the damage.
