Joint Base Charleston introduces new commander

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The 628th Air Base Wing at Joint Base Charleston held a change of command ceremony Monday morning, symbolizing the transfer of authority and responsibility from one commander to another.

The ceremony honored Col. Michael Freeman, 628th Air Base Wing and Joint Base Charleston commander as he relinquished his command to Col. Jason Parker, from the 6th Mission Support Group, MacDill Air Force Base, Florida.

Joint Base Charleston houses more than 60 Department of Defense and federal agencies and supports more than 70,000 Airmen, Sailors, Soldiers, Marines, Coast Guardsmen, civilians, dependents, and retirees.

The former commander of the 628th Air Base Wing expressed gratitude for his time as commander.

“This town, these airmen and sailors are just amazing. So being able to work with them and work in this community has been outstanding,” said Col. Michael Freeman.

New commander Col. Jason Parker shared his thoughts on going into the position.

“So I think we’ve got a very strong community partnership here,” said Col. Parker. “I want to keep that going. All of the things that the Freemans and their predecessors have put in place here at Joint Base Charleston I want to continue to leverage and build upon and cultivate in my time here over the next two years.”
