1 dead after vehicle went airborne in Highway 162 crash

HOLLYWOOD, S.C. (WCBD) – A driver died after being ejected from a vehicle that went airborne early Saturday morning in the Hollywood area.

Deputies with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) responded to the intersection of Highway 162 and Bock Road around 3:30 a.m. for a single-vehicle crash.

The vehicle was traveling west on Highway 162 when it left the roadway. Deputies said the vehicle became airborne and hit a large tree branch mid-air. It landed on a culver, rolled, and landed upside down in a ditch.

The driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, was ejected and died at the scene. That person’s identity has not yet been released.
