Couple marry at Trident Medical while wife undergoes treatment
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Wedding bells rang out at Trident Medical Center’s hospital chapel Friday after a Goose Creek couple said, ‘I do’.
Matthew Kibbey and Van Nguyen said their vows and were united as husband and wife late Friday morning. When asked about his new bride, Kibbey said, “ She is the kindest and sweetest person I’ve ever known in my life.”
Hospital officials say Nguyen has been hospitalized for the past week due to complications related to lupus. When asked why they got married at the hospital, the pair, who had been together for five years, said it just felt like the right time.
Family and hospital staff attended the wedding ceremony, and afterward, employees and guests could celebrate with the couple on a red carpet in the hospital lobby.
Trident Medical employees said putting together this wedding was a joy for them.
“I think the opportunity to help plan today’s wedding brought as much joy to our staff as it did for Matthew and Van to get married,” said Chief Nursing Officer Jenn Freund. “We wish her a quick recovery so she and her husband can start enjoying their lives together as husband and wife.”
The bride was able to join a livestream after the ceremony to speak with her family and friends in Australia and Vietnam.
