Tropical Depression 2 forms in the Atlantic

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A tropical depression formed in the Atlantic on Friday afternoon.

Forecasters with the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said Tropical Depression Two, located about 1225 miles east-southeast of Barbados, is expected to strengthen into a hurricane before possibly approaching the Windward Islands.

The system is moving west at 21 mph with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph.

Forecasters say hurricane or tropical storm watches could be issued for portions of the Lesser Antilles Friday night or early Saturday.
