Voters pick nominee in Colleton Co. Clerk of Court Democratic runoff
COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — One candidate prevailed Tuesday night in the Colleton County Clerk of Court Democratic primary runoff election.
Sherry Akins-Robinsons received 63.09% of votes against Wanda Taylor’s 36.91%, according to the South Carolina Election Commission’s unofficial tally. Overall, 1,818 votes were counted for the runoff race.
The runoff was initiated after Akins-Robinson earned roughly 47% while Taylor received 40% during the June 13 primary election. South Carolina requires candidates to receive at least 50% of the votes to win outright.
Previous Colleton County Clerk of Court Rebecca Hill vacated the position amid controversy connected to the Alex Murdaugh trial to spend more time with family.
Gov. Henry McMaster appointed Patricia Grant to serve until November’s general election or until a successor qualifies.
