1 dead, 1 arrested after Sunday night shooting, North Charleston police say

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Authorities in North Charleston are investigating a deadly Sunday night shooting.

Detectives arrested 18-year-old Hakeem Wayne Johnson for murder and possession of a firearm during a violent crime.

Additional charges are pending for Johnson, according to Harve Jacobs, North Charleston Police (NCPD) spokesman.

NCPD officers responded to a location off Dakota Street for a report of a man down in the street and not moving.

A spokesman for the agency said arriving officers found the unresponsive man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Johnson was found walking on Gable Street Monday afternoon. He is booked at the Al Cannon Detention Center.

The investigation is ongoing.
