How to report storm damage in Berkeley County

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Berkeley County officials are working to survey damage and clean up debris following Monday night’s storm.

People living in Ladson, Sangaree, Summerville, and Goose Creek reported numerous fallen trees, large hail, heavy rain, and strong winds as a thunderstorm ripped through the area before 8 p.m.

Berkeley County officials said they received reports of downed powerlines and trees across roadways after the storm.

“Crews with County Roads and Bridges, SCDOT, and local fire departments are working to clear impacted areas as quickly as possible. Please do not drive or walk into flooded areas,” officials said.

The county is asking residents and businesses to report storm damage online to help staff gauge the extent of damage so they can report findings to state and federal agencies.

“These reports will determine appropriate federal and state funding for damage caused by the storm,” officials said.

A citizen call line has been established for residents who need information regarding clean-up and other storm-related issues. Callers can dial 843-719-4800 where they will hear an automated message with information. Only use 911 for emergencies.
