Friday marks last day of early voting for South Carolina primaries

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD)- Time is almost up for those planning to vote early in South Carolina’s statewide primaries.

The last day for registered voters to cast a ballot early is Friday, June 6.

Counties are required to have at least one polling location open for early voting. Sites will be open from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.

“If you’re leaving town, this is a great opportunity to make sure your voice is heard,” Isaac Cramer, executive director for Charleston County Board of Voter Registration and Elections, said.

All seven of South Carolina’s seats in the U.S. House of Representatives are up for election in 2024.

All 170 seats in South Carolina’s state legislature — 124 in the House and 46 in the Senate — are also up for grabs this year. But, not every race features a contested primary.

Some ballots will also include races for county sheriff, circuit solicitor, probate judge, coroner, and other local-level offices.

Cramer suggests visiting the South Carolina Election Commission website to obtain a sample ballot before heading to the polls.

“That way when you show up, you know what’s on your ballot and you’re not going to be confused in that process,” he said.

South Carolina holds open primaries, meaning registered voters can choose to participate in either the Democratic Party or Republican Party contest, but not both.

Individuals who will be 18 years old by the Nov. 5 general elections can vote in the primaries.
