Charleston man arrested for attempted murder in downtown shooting

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — Charleston Police say they have arrested a suspect in connection to a downtown shooting from March.

Javon Tashawn Williams, 20, was arrested and charged with attempted murder, two counts of assault and battery in the first degree, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

On March 11, police received reports of a shooting near the intersection of Columbus Street and Hanover Street. Sgt. Christopher Stinson said no one was injured during this shooting.

Williams was booked at the Al Cannon Detention Center and is awaiting a bond hearing.

On that same day 20 minutes later, a 15-year-old suspect returned to the scene where Williams shot and returned fire in retaliation, detectives said. The minor injured Williams when they returned fire.
