Charleston County K-9 initiates narcotics arrest of repeat offender

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – K-9 Blitz with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office helped deputies recover two stolen guns and a large amount of contraband over the weekend, according to the agency.

Anthony Quiton Varns was booked at the Al Cannon Detention Center on Monday and charged with four counts related to drug possession and distribution and two stolen goods charges. His bond was set at $104,250.

According to jail records, Varns has been booked at the Charleston County jail 21 times since 2010.

Deputy Hodge initiated a traffic stop and released Blitz for a free air sniff, which led to a probable cause search of the vehicle.

After searching, authorities found a loaded Glock 29 and a Palmetto State Armory handgun. CCSO said both items were stolen from their jurisdiction. Also discovered was a counterfeit Coca-Cola can which contained the following:

  • 8.1 grams of crack cocaine
  • 9.24 grams of methamphetamine
  • 3.4 grams of cocaine
  • 14.23 grams of crushed MDMA
  • $1,800 in cash

“We thank Deputy Hodge and K-9 Blitz for a job well done and keeping our community safe,” the sheriff’s office wrote on social media.
