1 shot, 1 officer injured in North Charleston incident Thursday
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — Police in North Charleston are investigating a shots fired call that turned into a police cruiser collision.
Officers were dispatched to Adair Street after receiving a call of shots fired. A suspect vehicle was leaving the driveway when they arrived, and a pursuit ensued, according to North Charleston Police.
Authorities initiated a felony traffic stop. A minor suspect jumped out of the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. As a result, an officer tried to pursue the suspect in her police cruiser and got into a collision.
The officer was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries. Police later learned a juvenile girl had been shot and was taken to the hospital for treatment. According to Harve Jacobs with NCPD, initial investigation has revealed the shooting could have been accidental.
Jacobs did not say how severe the girl’s injuries were from the gunshot wound.
North Charleston Police are still investigating this incident.
