Colleton Co. warns residents of Jury Duty, unpaid traffic ticket scams

COLLETON COUNTY, S..C (WCBD) – The Colleton County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) issued a scam alert for residents to watch out for phone calls from individuals claiming to be law enforcement.

Deputies say there’s an increase across the state of scammers requesting payment for missed Jury Duty or unpaid traffic tickets.

“No Deputy from CCSO will call you and request payment, for any purpose,” said the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office.

According to CCSO, missed Jury Duty or unpaid traffic tickets are not dealt with over the phone. The Colleton County Court will send an official document about missed Jury Duty or unpaid traffic tickets.

Officials ask anyone who receives a call like this, to hang up immediately and block the number.
