BCSD Summer Meal Program provides free meals for kids
BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The Berkeley County School District will provide free breakfast and lunch to children throughout the summer.
The program begins Monday, June 3 and runs through Thursday, July 26.
Officials say the Seamless Summer Option (SSO) allows school districts to provide free summer meals in low-income areas during the summer vacation periods.
According to BCSD, “It is an extension of the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), which is administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Free breakfast and lunch meals that meet Federal nutrition guidelines are provided to all children and teens at approved SSO sites.”
Breakfast will be served between 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and lunch will be served from 10:30 a.m. until noon. BCSD says all meals must be consumed on-site.
