Deputies investigate shooting between two groups Monday afternoon

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Two people were detained Monday evening following a shooting in the Whites Creek area.

Deputies and crime scene investigators with the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) responded to Waccamaw Road and Congaree Lane after multiple reports of gunfire were called to dispatchers.

Witnesses told law enforcement that three men were walking in the area during the late afternoon when an older model gray sedan pulled up and the two parties exchanged gunfire.

Deputies detained two of the men who were walking but were not cooperating with the investigation. It’s not yet clear if any arrests were made.

Meanwhile, shell casings were recovered from the area and deputies spoke with nearby homeowners and ensured their properties were not damaged.

The investigation is ongoing.
