Former Williamsburg County Water and Sewer employee charged for embezzling county funds
WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — The State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has charged a former Williamsburg County employee for embezzling public funds.
Sherrie Wallace Footman, 57, was charged with embezzlement of public funds valued at $10,000 or more on Monday.
An arrest warrant from SLED says Footman, a former office manager for Williamsburg County Water and Sewer, embezzled $152,000.94 of funds from the office from January 2018 to November 2022.
Authorities used financial records and witness statements to piece the case together. Footman was responsible for safekeeping, transferring and disbursement of public funds in her role as office manager.
She was taken to the Williamsburg County Detention Center. The 3rd Circuit Solicitor’s Office will prosecute this case.
