2 dead following Goose Creek townhome fire

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCBD) – Two people are dead following an early Monday morning townhome fire in Goose Creek.

The Goose Creek Rural Fire Department and other agencies responded to a townhome community on Pine Shadow Drive around 2:00 a.m. and discovered a significant fire on the first floor of the middle unit.

Fire officials said two residents jumped from windows on the second floor before crews arrived. Both were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

One person was found on the second floor and removed. Fire officials said that person was declared dead at the scene. A second victim was found dead on the second floor after the fire was brought under control.

Both victims will be identified by the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office when appropriate.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office was also called to the scene, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has been asked to conduct a fire investigation.

The cause of the early morning fire remains under investigation.
