Roof collapses on Cottageville home during Friday night fire

COTTAGEVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) – A home near Cottageville suffered substantial damage in a Friday night fire.

Crews with Colleton County Fire Rescue (CCFR) responded to a home off Rehoboth Road after a neighbor called 9-1-1 to report a building was on fire around 9:16 p.m.

Firefighters arrived to find a single-story wood frame home was burning. “They reported the roof had already collapsed, indicating the building had been on fire for some time,” said fire officials.

It appears the fire started in the home’s front room, according to fire rescue officials. The cause remains under investigation.

Crews remained on the scene performing overhaul for about two hours.
