Severe thunderstorm risk for Thursday
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – On Thursday afternoon, thunderstorms are predicted to hit the Lowcountry with the highest risk being wind damage and large hail.
Storm Team 2 is on weather alert and says strong storms are expected between noon and 6 p.m.
“The tornado risk is fairly limited, it’s not zero – but it’s not high either,” says Meteorologist Josh Marthers. “Wind damage threat is elevated today and so is the threat for large hail.”
Marthers added that flooding will not be a major issue as the storm will move through the Lowcountry quickly. However, there could be some minor short-fuse flooding that would quickly drain off.
Temperatures are predicted to hit the upper 80s in the afternoon, but the record high of 95 degrees won’t be broken this Thursday due to the storms covering the Lowcountry.
