Goose Creek officer collapsed while responding to fight; released from hospital

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCBD) – An officer with the Goose Creek Police Department collapsed late Saturday night while responding to a fight outside a sports bar.

The officer was conducting patrols when he drove through the parking lot at Two Keys Tavern off College Park Road around 11:15 p.m. and observed a fight involving several females.

Officials said the officer called for additional units and attempted to break up the fight. “In doing so, the female subjects turned on him and began to attack,” the department said.

While the officer had one person restrained, he grabbed the leg of another who was kicking him, causing her to fall to the ground. During the struggle, police said the woman broke free and ran.

The officer attempted to chase the woman, with his taser drawn, when he began to experience a medical situation that caused him to collapse. Police said that despite several witnesses, none came to aid the officer.

Additional units from Goose Creek PD and deputies from the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office arrived and detained multiple female subjects.

The officer was taken to Trident Medical Center where he was treated and released.
