Tumbleston Trust withdraws Ravenel rezoning request

RAVENEL, S.C. (WCBD) – A company looking to redevelop approximately 99 acres in Ravenel has withdrawn its request.

A request from Tumbleston Trust to change zoning in the Charleston County community would allow for a higher housing density on the 99-acre tract which is being eyed for a proposed neighborhood called the Pasture at FarrField.

The plan included 100 new single-family homes.

People who live in the area voiced concerns at community meetings and during protests in the town saying the increase in traffic and population would take away from the community.

Tumbleston Trust halted its plans earlier this month to review its application and to conduct a traffic study. After that, community meetings were held to review their findings.

After more pushback from the community Tumbleston Trust announced on Tuesday that it was withdrawing its zoning request.

Susan Hendricks, a Tumbleston Trust Family Member, said conversations over the past two weeks identified some planning changes which could be made to enhance the Pasture at FarrField and address housing needs in the area.

“Our family and legal team need more time to evaluate the requests and how they might be incorporated into our plan. Our family wants this done right; therefore, we have withdrawn our current request. We know the Pasture at FarrField will provide a wonderful opportunity for growing local families to be able to enjoy desirable housing options and stay in Ravenel rather than having to leave town to find a place to live,” Hendricks said.
