The Town of Ravenel to host public comment session on Tumbleston Trust land rezoning

RAVENEL, S.C. (WCBD) – The town of Ravenel is hosting a public comment session Wednesday afternoon on the rezoning of a 99-acre property in the area.

While the public could not give verbal comment at the town’s last meeting, many were in attendance. It was there Tumbleston Trust released concept artwork of what the developed land could look like.

The concept shows possible placement of the housing and street access for the neighborhood.

Last week, Tumbleston Trust also announced a traffic report explaining how the increase in houses wouldn’t impact area roads, a top concern for many residents.

This rezoning request is something town of Ravenel residents have voiced concern over throughout the last months; back in January, they held a protest driving in the area with signs displaying those concerns.

Now on Wednesday, the public will have a chance to openly voice those concerns to Ravenel Town leaders. Not including the mayor, as this land belongs to the family of Ravenel Mayor Stephen Tumbleston who has recused himself from any conversation about this issue.

At the last meeting, News 2 talked with one resident in attendance who said that even after the traffic study and proposed plans he still had concerns.

“After everything they talked about tonight, do you feel at ease at all, in any regard,” asked News 2.

“No, no, I don’t, I don’t,” he said. “Tonight, they had a ton more information to make an intelligent decision. However, it’s so incomplete,” said Ravenel resident Roy Smith.

The deadline to register to give a public comment tonight has already closed, Wednesday’s public comment session is set to begin at the Ravenel Townhall at 6 p.m.
