Burning incense causes apartment fire in Goose Creek Tuesday

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCBD) — The Goose Creek Fire Department responded to a fire at an apartment complex on Branchwood Drive Tuesday night.

Residents escaped from the fire at Branchwood Apartments before fire crews arrived, and no injuries were reported. Units arrived around 7:08 p.m., and the fire was deemed under control at 7:54 p.m., according to Goose Creek Fire.

The occupants could not return to their homes after the fire was extinguished and are currently being helped by the Red Cross.

GCFD says an initial investigation has revealed the fire’s origin stemmed from burning incense. Several units in the apartment building reported smoke and water damage.

Fire Marshal Josh Rohrbach says the fire was mainly contained to the apartment it started in and drifted partially into an attic space.

First responders from Goose Creek Rural, Pine Ridge Fire-Rescue, Joint Base Charleston, and North Charleston Fire all assisted with this incident.
