Open Houses, including guided tours, planned at Union Pier development site

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – What does the future hold for Union Pier? A pair of workshops are planned for the terminal property on Tuesday.

The Union Pier Team will host two open houses at the site with one taking place from 9:00 a.m. until noon and a second from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Community members will have the opportunity to participate in guided tours and learn more about site opportunities and constraints. There will also be a chance to provide feedback and suggestions on the project.

Several design firms involved in the redevelopment project will be on hand for the workshops.

“We are thrilled to be able to host the next open house onsite at Union Pier,” said Dr. Kendra Stewart, Director of the Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Center for Livable Communities at the College of Charleston. “There is no better way to promote collective, communitywide discovery and reimagining of the property. The design team will contextualize our understanding of the site, and this includes highlighting some of the site’s limitations and constraints alongside the many opportunities it presents for our community. We hope that people will come with an open mind, ready to explore and provide feedback grounded in the reality of the site`s significant history and conditions.”

The tours will last 20 to 30 minutes and will run continuously throughout each of the three-hour periods. It includes guided bus tours with structured stops along the property.

“We encourage anyone who is unable to join us in person to share their feedback on our website,” said Dr. Stewart. “Our goal is to ensure engagement opportunities for all members of our community.”
