Search continues for wanted man Charles Britt in Berkeley County

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) is still searching Sunday night for a man wanted for attempted murder and various other charges.

Charles Britt, 24, has been on the run for the past few days following a series of incidents that happened last week, including attempting to shoot his father.

Chief Deputy Jeremy Baker said the sheriff’s office investigated an incident earlier Sunday where someone wearing camouflage tried to take a dirtbike from a rider at gunpoint. The attempt was unsuccessful; however, the sheriff’s office was unable to say if that incident involved Britt.

The sheriff’s office also believes that Britt is responsible for at least four fires that were started in the county on Sunday.

Those fires were in the area of Conifer and Halfway Creek Roads. Officials with the South Carolina Forestry Service responded to those fires; However, in areas where they have been actively searching for Britt, crews had to let some of those fires burn themselves out.

At this point, the fires have only burned some woods. No structures have been involved with the fires. There is no estimate on how much land has burned with these fires.

Deputies initially responded to a Tea Rose Lane home on Wednesday for an assault, which happened at another address.

Victims told deputies that Britt approached them at their home on Eggleston Way and was acting irate.

He allegedly accused them of calling the police on them, and during an argument, Britt grabbed a pole off the ground and hit the victim across the chest with the pole, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies say Britt then grabbed a pistol out of a truck and held it to the victim’s head and pulled the trigger. “The pistol misfired and didn’t discharge. Britt then pointed the pistol at one of the victim’s dogs and fired the weapon into the ground. Britt then left the scene. Deputies searched for Britt but did not locate him,” the department said.

Britt is wanted on charges of attempted murder, two counts of pointing and presenting, armed robbery, grand larceny, two counts of possession of weapon during a violent crime, and two counts of possession of weapon during a violent crime by felon.

He is considered armed and dangerous. Do not approach him. If you see Britt, or know where he may be, immediately call Berkeley County Dispatch at 843-719-4169.
