Thursday is the final day to register for SC’s Republican presidential preference primary

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Thursday marks the last day you can register to vote in next month’s Republican presidential preference primary.

Voters will head to the polls on Saturday, February 24 to decide who they want on the GOP’s ticket in the race for the White House against incumbent President Joe Biden.

South Carolina state law requires a person to register at least 30 days before an election takes place.

The deadline to vote in the Democratic presidential preference primary passed on Jan. 4. That primary will take place on Feb. 3; however, the state does not require voters to register by political party and holds open primaries.

How to register

  • Visit your county’s voter registration and elections office to register in person.
  • Register online by visiting the South Carolina Election Commission’s website.
  • Download a registration form and mail it to your county’s election officer with a postmarked date of Jan. 25. Forms can also be picked up in person at the county voter registration and election offices.

Those who are registered to vote but moved recently can update their address by visiting scvotes.org.
