Start your engines: Motorsports facility coming to Williamsburg County

WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A motorsports facility spanning about 155 acres is under construction in Williamsburg County that promises to blend the “thrill of high-performance driving on an FIA-certified track and luxury amenities.”

Charleston Motorsports Club announced Thursday that a members’ motorsport track and other features is being developed in the Greeleyville community, which is about 75 minutes from the Charleston area.

“As an avid automobile lover, amateur racer, and the owner of luxury services brands Stella Nova and Barrelli Barber, I felt compelled to take these passions and combine them,” said CEO Peter Evans.  “Charleston MotorSports Club is a place where high-end performance and luxury all come together.”

Phase 1 of the construction project will include a 1.62-mile road course. It is being designed by an internationally renowned company, Driven, which is known for its racetracks and driving courses in the US, UK, Canada, and other countries.

“There’s been a need for a world-class circuit near Charleston where enthusiasts can enjoy their cars and use them for what they were meant to do,” said COO Ray Berrouët. “We recognized that need and brought you Charleston Motorsports Club, the only Grade 4, FIA-certified track in North America making it the perfect place to bring your passion to life.”

A pit building, paddock, and private garage condos are included in the first phase of development. The facility will also feature myriad circuits, all setting the stage for “adrenaline-fueled experiences.”

According to plans for the facility, the pit building will serve as a hub for the Charleston Motorsports Complex community, which will overlook the track with garages on the ground floor, and a café and social spaces on the first floor.

Trackside garage condos will be made available for members who need extra space, enhanced privacy, and on-site storage for cars. “These spaces are fully appointed private residences with views over the circuit. Additional managed storage facilities are available for members with larger car collections,” a spokesperson said.

Organizers say the first section of the performance driving circuit is expected to be ready for use this year, but an official or projected date was not provided.

Membership tiers will be based on track time needs. To learn more, click here.
