Lowcountry to feel bitterly cold temperatures this weekend

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The coldest weather of the season will arrive just in time for the weekend.

A cold front will sweep across the southeast bringing bitterly cold temperatures to much of the Lowcountry by Saturday morning.

Expect to see temperatures in the mid-20s to near 30 degrees on Saturday morning with a gusty northwest wind at 10 to 20 mph, which will make the air feel like it’s in the teens and low 20s.

Despite expected sunshine, highs will be in the upper 30s and low 40s Saturday and Sunday with morning lows in the teens to around 20. Wind chills will be as low as 5-15 degrees Sunday morning.

“For perspective, our normal high temperature for tomorrow would be 60 degrees. We’re forecasting 40-42, and you get further north and we’re talking 30s maybe even as high as 35 in Williamsburg County,” said Storm Team 2 Meteorologist Josh Marthers.

• Most inland areas will experience temps in the teens, and low to mid-20s closer to the coast
• Wind chill values as low as 5 degrees are expected Sunday morning

Remember to bring your pets inside, check on elderly neighbors, and cover plants and vegetation that is vulnerable to cold temperatures. Wrap exposed pipes and drip faucets.
