Overturned vehicle was attempting to evade Mount Pleasant police
MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – A vehicle that overturned in Mount Pleasant on Thursday afternoon was attempting to evade law enforcement, according to police.
An officer with the Mount Pleasant Police Department attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle that disregarded a red light in the area of Highway 17 North at Venning Road.
“The driver of the vehicle failed to stop for the officer and attempted to flee. The officer discontinued the traffic stop and did not pursue the vehicle as the circumstances did not meet the requirements to pursue,” officials with the police department said.
But while the vehicle was running from the traffic stop, the driver lost control of his vehicle along Hungryneck Boulevard, which caused it to overturn.
“Another one of our officers, unrelated to the traffic stop, witnessed the collision and went to provide assistance,” police said.
The driver exited the vehicle and tried to run away but he was apprehended by one of the officers.
