North Charleston brush fire under control, NCFD says
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – North Charleston fire crews extinguished a brush fire that prompted some evacuations on Wednesday afternoon.
Captain Christian Rainey said firefighters with the North Charleston Fire Department (NCFD) responded to a call regarding a forest fire around 10:00 a.m. near Palmetto Commerce Parkway.
At the scene, Capt. Rainey said crews discovered a small fire that had spread about 40 acres into the woods.
People were asked to avoid the area of Palmetto Commerce Parkway and Patriots Boulevard as crews worked the put the fire out.
Charleston County evacuated employees from its nearby Emergency Services building as a precaution due to the large brush fire.
The 9-1-1 center is still operating normally but officials are asking the public to not call 9-1-1 to report the fire.
Rainey said the cause of that fire is under investigation.
