Today Show highlights Charleston as perfect ‘winter destination’
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The Today Show named Charleston a perfect destination for a winter escape for people around the nation who want to escape cold temperatures – or even snow – where they live.
Storm Team 2’s Josh Marthers had the opportunity to showcase what the Lowcountry has to offer during a special segment on the Today Show early Thursday morning alongside Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg.
“We’re in the thick of winter and across a ton of the country, a lot of us are yearning for warmer, sunnier days. So, for our viewers who cannot get away this winter, we are bringing the sunshine with our special series Today’s winter getaways,” said Today host Hoda Kotb.
Josh and Mayor Tecklenburg were live from the iconic Pineapple fountain in downtown Charleston to share what makes Charleston unique during the winter season.
It comes as Charleston kicks off the summer festival season with the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition taking place over three days this weekend. It’s the largest wildlife and art show in the country.
The Cooper River Bridge Run, Credit One Open tennis tournament, Charleston Wine and Food, and Spoleto Festival USA are all set to return this spring.
From historic tours to warm days on the beach, make Charleston your destination to escape winter.
Charleston is one of five destinations around the country chosen to be featured on Today Show’s Winter Escape special.
